Places visited by riders of The Moss Run - Colne to Skipton

Held on the Saturday before Christmas (except when that is Christmas Eve like this year!)

Get out of bed early, get your life in order and get down to the Morris Dancers for noon. This is the gathering point and there is a tendency to hang about for a little while to allow for late comers, so you could have time for a pint if you are early!
Lots of chatting going on as we head East to Laneshaw Bridge, only a mile or so to the Emmott Arms, a very cosy pub with a smell of cooking food. A strong willed person could convince everyone to stay here for the rest of the afternoon.
O woe! We have to cycle (uphill) past what used to be a pub, The Hargreaves Arms, at Monkroyd. This place was just as warm and cosy as the Emmott and sorely missed.
Over the top of the Moss, a bleak and barren expanse of moorland, to descend past another defunct pub! This stop was always cold and a little austere and as we are going downhill at a speed, not so sadly missed.
Normally there are lots of other people out having a drink by the time we get here. The Bay Horse at Crosshills is a real local pub with a gang of regulars, some of them even remember us from the year before. Maybe it's the smell?
A rapid descent can leave one feeling quite cool on arrival at the Dog and Gun, but the good news is that this is where we eat and the food is affordable and wholesome. The beers not bad either, so how many have we had so far?
The route that I am familiar with avoids two pubs in the village of Glusburn and we cut across the valley to Kildwick. The roundabout can be a bit hairy, but we are still in daylight, just as we enter The White Lion.
Down the slip road the wrong way (and it's getting dark) to join the new road in to Skipton. Another tricky roundabout and the pub is right on it. It's our second Bay Horse and a bit of a family eating type of a place, but there's plenty of room to spread out and dry your gear.
